Oct 08 Blog - Final Edition

Hello and welcome to the October Blog, our final edition, for a month which has seen further work on our new strategy and the final plans from National Governing Bodies of Sport being submitted. Work with County Sports Partnerships continues regionally in supporting ongoing delivery and considering new funding relationships.

  • Board Finale
The East Regional Sports Board will host its final meeting in the next few months, with awards decision making going national in January 2009. There are details below on the results of our recent funding consultation.
On our own reorganisation, consultation has now closed with colleagues being able to apply for roles in the new structure shortly. We will keep you up to date on this.
  • Communications Changes
One immediate impact is that Communications Manager and Blog Editor Simon Badman is heading to YMCA England to become Head of Movement Communications. This is a fantastic opportunity for Simon to further develop his skills and abilities on a national stage and I would like to thank him for all his superb work, ensuring that you got our messages over the past 12 years. Updated details of Sport England East media contacts can be found here
  • The Latest from the Pitch
As mentioned above, this Blog is sadly the final edition for the region. I would encourage you to subscribe to The Pitch email update here
. I’d like to thank you all for subscribing to the Blog, some of you since its early days in 2000, as the email update. We’ve appreciated all your comments, feedback and contributions in developing the service over the years.

For all other communication-related enquiries please contact the regional office on 01234 345222.

Things can only get better? - Eastern Region Seminar Final Speakers confirmed
The final line up of speakers has now been confirmed for the Eastern Region Seminar on the 20th November with the day focusing firmly on Service Improvement and Delivery, as well as new opportunities for the Active Leisure sector.

Brian King, formerly of the I&DeA, will be heading up the impressive line up of speakers by setting the scene around the emerging improvement agenda for local government, the challenges and opportunities coming up, the potential in developing relationships between local authorities and regional bodies, as well as an overview of service commissioning.

A new speaker just confirmed is Liz Delany - PE and Sport Adviser for Partnerships for Schools. Liz is the National lead for PE and sport within Building Schools for the Future and will be speaking about offering strategic advice about how Local Authorities and their delivery partners can tie into the programme - thereby ensuring wider engagement of the sector.

The morning will focus on the "Road to Excellence" and Commissioning/Procurement, while the afternoon will focus on Service Delivery Options, with a speaker from a Trust, a Local Authority and a Leisure Management Contractor explaining their own particular approach and the advantages it brings. At the end of the afternoon will be workshops looking at some of the big opportunities to the sector at the moment, such as 2012 and Free Swimming.

The event costs just £50, thanks to sponsorship by Alliance Leisure, and is being organised by Leisure-net Solutions on behalf of Eastern Region Ispal, CLOA, ISRM and sporta. It is taking place at the Essex Golf and Country Club at Earls Colne near Colchester just off the A12.

Please find attached a copy of the full programme and a booking form.
